The Farmers’ Association of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity has renewed its appeal to all cantonal governments to declare a state of natural disaster due to the prolonged drought, warning that conditions within the agricultural sector have become untenable.

According to the Association, the extended dry spell has inflicted severe damage on agricultural producers, with crop yields in certain sectors plummeting by more than 50 percent. The crisis coincides with the fast-approaching autumn sowing season, even as input costs for raw materials continue to surge.

Producers face rising expenses for fuel, fertilisers, and other essential production inputs, contrasted against continuously declining purchase prices for domestic agricultural products.

The Association cautioned that without immediate financial and operational relief for agricultural producers, the FBiH risks a drastic drop in domestic output alongside the widespread closure of farms across the entity.

"If no action is taken, mass farm closures are imminent. Everything required for the production process is becoming more expensive, while purchase prices continue to fall," the Farmers' Association of the FBiH stated.
