A team of the Mountain Rescue Service of Bosnia's Federation (FBiH) entity, 32 of them left for Turkey on Sunday at exactly 8 am, to join their colleagues, who had earlier gone in search of the missing due to the devastating earthquake that shook the region. Among them are father and daughter Jasmin Ferhatovic and Jasmina Omerbegovic.
This is not their first joint rescue operation, but it is the biggest.
“We are definitely heading there with a dose of fear, but we have to do everything we can,” said Jasmina, when leaving for Turkey.
Her father, Jasmin, added that the rescuers are trained to always be ready to go, something he passed on to his daughter, as well.
“When the earthquake in Petrinja, Croatia happened – we were ready, Albania – we were ready, this is the first time that we are heading for Turkey on our own initiative,” said Jasmin.
There is also one lady among the four team leaders, Amra Okanovic from Zenica Mountain Rescue Service. She said her team was ready to help the residents affected by the earthquake from the first day.
“Until now, we haven't had the opportunity to go on rescue operations due to the earthquake, I'm mostly trained in searches in the urban world. We are in that world, we want to help, I hope we will help”, Okanovic said.
The number of rescuers from Bosnia and Herzegovina in Turkey is increasing, the first team that went to the earthquake-affected area was the Republika Srpska (RS) entity team, four days ago. The same evening, the teams from the FBiH left for Turkey by land. All teams are still in the field.
