FBiH PM meets World Bank Director to advance key infrastructure and reform projects

The Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), Nermin Niksic, hosted a meeting on Friday in Sarajevo with Xiaoqing Yu, the World Bank Regional Director for the Western Balkans. The discussion was also attended by Christopher Sheldon, Head of the World Bank Office in BiH, and Kemal Hrnjic, FBiH Minister of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry.

The primary focus of the meeting was to review the progress of projects financed by the World Bank within the Federation of BiH, with particular emphasis placed on road infrastructure and solid waste management. The officials used the opportunity to exchange information on current projects, obligations, and upcoming activities, and to outline guidelines for continuing and enhancing their cooperation.
It was noted that the successful collaboration to date has significantly contributed to the advancement of projects critical to the citizens of the FBiH. Highlighted in this context were projects supporting road modernization and solid waste management, which are reported to be in the final stages of negotiation and are expected to commence implementation next year. Mutual satisfaction was expressed regarding the progress achieved on these crucial initiatives.
Prime Minister Niksic thanked the World Bank representatives for their sustained support, emphasizing that the financial institution is an important partner in implementing key projects and priority reforms. The Prime Minister specifically pointed to the ongoing fiscalization process as one of the key fiscal reforms designed to reduce the grey economy in the FBiH and ensure stable revenue growth. He noted that this growth provides the necessary resources for increasing pensions and social benefits, as well as funding incentives and other reforms aimed at improving the living standards of all FBiH citizens.
The officials also discussed potential future cooperation regarding the reconstruction and modernization of railway infrastructure in the Federation of BiH, acknowledging its importance for ensuring market supply stability.
