Following some Italian media reports that their intelligence service knows of some 20 active terrorist cells in the Balkans area, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Federation (FBiH) entity Interior Minister Ramo Isak said the information is incorrect and that BiH citizens can sleep peacefully because, the security situation in the country is satisfactory.
“That is not true, they are telling untruths. Our services conduct their work professionally. I will ask their intelligence services to come to us for training, for our people to train them so they can start doing their job properly,” Isak stressed.
Last week, several local media outlets reported on Italian media reports claiming that their intelligence agencies have discovered some 20 terrorist cells in Bosnia, Serbia, North Macedonia, Kosovo and other countries, consisting of locals and migrants, allegedly plotting terrorist attacks in the region and Western Europe.
These allegations were also rejected by Bosnia’s Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic.
“Too often people play with fire, I can say that freely about the unfounded radicalism and extremism in BiH, which of course I strongly oppose. We have our security challenges, which are by no means lesser than European ones. We have all raised the security level of our law enforcement forces and services because of everything that is happening in Ukraine, Gaza, and Palestine and due to the reaction of a certain number of individuals who have a certain level of emotion about it. It is fertile ground for a spark to ignite somewhere. We are not ruling out, as neither is any other European country, that some security problem can occur but our services and our agencies that do their work professionally don’t have that kind of information, as well as this story about migrants who are kept under control, but was a much bigger problem for Bosnia and Herzegovina at times,” Konakovix said.
