Federation entity opens first functional oil terminal in 30 years

“This is a strategic project for the entire FBiH and a major step toward energy security and a stable supply for both citizens and the economy. I am especially proud that the Blazuj Terminal is now operational and linked to the sea terminal in Ploce,” Lakic said.

Officials stressed that the achievement reflects the efforts of the FBiH government under Prime Minister Nermin Niksic, who prioritised building a modern, reliable energy sector resilient to crises and market fluctuations. The project, they noted, not only enhances supply security but also strengthens institutions and public trust.

With a capacity of 42,000 cubic meters (42 million litres), the Blazuj facility is ready to receive its first rail shipments following infrastructure upgrades, permit approvals, and a public tender to select the initial fuel supplier. The project restores the FBiH’s ability, for the first time in 30 years, to transport large volumes of oil by rail, store them securely, and distribute them via tanker trucks. Linking the Ploce sea terminal with Blazuj also bolsters strategic reserves in line with EU directives.

During his visit, Minister Lakic met with Damir Kres, chairman of the management board, and board member Adrijana Zarinkovic. Both underlined that the project reestablishes Blazuj as a cornerstone of the Federation’s energy infrastructure and underscores the role of the FBiH Terminal Operator (OTF) as not only a custodian of reserves but also a guarantor of trust and supply security.

Discussions also touched on the progress of works at the Bihac Terminal and reconstruction projects at the Zivnice and Mostar facilities.
