Film about Bosnian basketball legend Mirza Delibasic nominated for Goya Award

The documentary 'Shooting for Mirza', about the life of Bosnian basketball legend, Mirza Delibasic ‘Kindje’, was nominated for the Spanish Goya Award in eight categories.

The film was directed by Juan Gautier and the screenplay was written by Yayo Herrero. The film was produced by Dynamite Films and the Association Mirza Delibasic – Kindje.

The Goya Award is the most important Spanish national film award, awarded by the Academy of Film Arts and Sciences since 1987. The awarding of this prestigious award, the 37th in a row, will be held on February 11 at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones Auditorio Andalucia.

Shooting for Mirza premiered at the 27th Sarajevo Film Festival.

Mirza Delibasic, who is considered one of the best shooters in the history of European basketball, was born in the northern Bosnian city of Tuzla and died in Sarajevo aged 47.

He played his first games with the basketball team Sloboda Dita and then signed for the Bosna basketball team, which he led to EuroLeague Championship in 1979.
Delibasic resumed his career in the Spanish Primera Division, considered to be one of the best players to ever play for Real Madrid.

He was named one of FIBA's 50 Greatest Players in 1991 and was enshrined into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2007. He was also named one of the 50 Greatest EuroLeague Contributors.
