Film it in Sarajevo programme presented in Cannes

At this year's market as part of the 76th Cannes Film Festival, in the Southeast Europe pavilion, an event called Film it in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina was held, where Sarajevo, the UNESCO city of film, was presented as an attractive filming destination.

Those present were greeted by the Minister of Culture and Sports of the Sarajevo Canton, Kenan Magoda, the Mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karic, and the director of the Sarajevo Film Festival, Jovan Marjanovic.

“Sarajevo Film Festival really reflects the spirit of Sarajevo and that is the main reason why it is attractive to so many people. During the Festival, the city lives 24 hours a day – and the whole city lives the Festival. Thanks to them, we stimulate the film industry to shoot films in our city and try to make a good deal for potential investors. We are working on capital projects, constantly developing the tourist offer and looking for improved and new tourist products”, said Magoda.

Mayor Karic said that the Sarajevo Film Festival serves as a common platform for the film business of the entire region, setting high standards in the organization of the festival, promotion and presentation of films.

“As the Mayor of Sarajevo, I’m proud to be here and to have the opportunity to promote Sarajevo as a UNESCO city of film in front of the international film audience. The City of Sarajevo is shortlisted for the Global Production Awards, which are awarded for exceptional work in supporting film and TV production, confirming the commitment of the City of Sarajevo to the development and promotion of filmmaking,” Karic said.

The director of the Sarajevo Film Festival, Jovan Marjanovic, added that the goal of the Festival is for Sarajevo to have a strong production sector when it comes to the development of the film industry, noting that since the City of Sarajevo became the holder of the UNESCO title of the creative film city in 2019, the amount of film and TV production in Sarajevo had increased by 400 percent.
