A forest fire at the Komadinovo Vrelo site in the Municipality of Jablanica is still active, Anadolu Agency reported Thursday, adding that firefighting teams are in the field and that the population and houses are not endangered.
The fire broke out on Wednesday on inaccessible and steep terrain, and the firefighting units requested assistance from the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina Thursday.
Firefighters have already extinguished one fire hub during the morning.
“Even if we had an army of firefighters on the cliffs where the fire is burning today, it would be impossible to put it out. It’s in an inaccessible terrain where there is a great danger of stone collapsing. The slope is very steep. There are slopes 80 or 90 degrees steep. The only option is to extinguish the fire by acting from the air, with multiple aircraft. Unfortunately, we know how our country stands with these aircraft,” said Deputy Chief of Civil Protection Unit of Jablanica Omer Neziric.
Apart from Jablanica, minor fires are active in Herzegovina in the area of Stolac and Capljina. Houses and residents are also not endangered and fires are under control.
