The European Union will help Bosnia and Herzegovina strengthen the capacities of the Armed Forces with an amount of ten million euro through the European Peace Facility instrument, Bosnian Foreign Minister Bisera Turkovic said on Sunday, prior to her trip to Brussels.
The instrument's goal is to increase the EU's capability to prevent conflicts, preserve peace and strengthen the international stability and safety. The instrument's total budget amounts to five billion euro for the period 2021-2027, according to Turkovic.
“Bsnia and Herzegovina is the first beneficiary of these funds, and we expect the donation of ten million euro fro the enhancement of the mine clearance capacities of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” she said.
Turkovic is set to pay a visit to Brussels in the upcoming days, where she will attend a few European forums and speak about the situation in BiH.
“I expect the EU foreign affairs ministers to pass stances on the latest developments in our country and the Western Balkans. It is of utmost importance to turn this crisis into an opportunity of meeting the remaining conditions for the candidate status within the shortest period of time. I believe that would be the best response to retrograde policies,” said Turkovic.
