Mostar artists, Stipe and Jozo, have painted a mural on a Mostar university building dedicated to the captain of the Croatia football national team and Real Madrid star Luka Modric.

During the 2003/2004 season Modric played for Mostar Zrinjski, a local team in the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a loan player from Dinamo Zagreb. He was named the best player of the championship, even though Zrinjski finished as the 11th team of the league.

In 2018, Modric became the first Croatian player to win the UEFA Men's Player of the Year Award, and by winning The Best FIFA Men's Player and Ballon d'Or awards, he became the first player other than Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo to claim the awards in more than a decade.

Modric was also named the Best Croatian Footballer a record ten times, and in 2018 he was also named the Best Croatian Athlete.
