Sanctions against individuals from Bih should be announced Wednesday afternoon, Bosnian Foreign Minister Bisera Turkovic said, adding that those implementing the sanctions should announce the details and say whom they will be sanctioning.

She added that sanctions had been in the making for a long time and expressed the opinion that the United States of America and the European Union had finally harmonized their position on this matter, but that this would not be the final list, and that this is only the beginning of the imposition of sanctions.

The work of state institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been blocked since July last year when Republika Srpska (RS) entity representatives refused to participate in any decision-making because former High Representative to BiH Valentin Inzko imposed amendments to the Criminal Code banning genocide denial and glorification of war criminals.

The United States and the European Union have requested that the work of BiH institutions be unblocked and that the RS entity abandon the application of decisions on the establishment of the RS Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices and cease further activities on the transfer of competencies from the state to the entity level.

All this has caused the biggest political crisis in BiH since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement that ended the 1992-1995 war in BiH, which is why several international officials have talked about the possibility of imposing sanctions.
