BiH war crimes prosecutors filed an indictment against former Doboj police official Andrija Bjelosevic who stands accused of wartime sexual violence against Bosniak women committed in the area of Derventa.
Bjelosevic is accused of having acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Conventions on the Protection of Civilians in Time of War, which protect women against any attack on their honor and dignity.
Prosecutors believe that, during 1992 and 1993, Bjelosevic frequented an establishment in the Derventa area where several Bosniak women were detained and that he raped and sexually abused one of them on at least four occasions, under the threat of violence. This caused the victim serious physical injuries and mental distress and permanently damaged their health, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors expect 10 witnesses and expert witnesses to testify and say they will present 30 pieces of material evidence to the court.
The indictment was confirmed by the Court of BiH on Monday.
