Forto: Situation in Brussels dramatic, some EU states skeptical of Bosnia's progress

N1

On the eve of the European Council session where it will be decided to open accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Edin Forto, the leader of Our Party told N1 that he is optimistic Bosnia will get the green light, but also that there are countries that speak with reservations about the fulfilled obligations that are ahead of them. Even if Bosnia gets the green light on Thursday, Forto said that it is known what is immediately put on our agenda, without which the door will not be opened.

Forto called this whole situation dramatic.

“These conditions are crucial. I would say that the situation is dramatic, the words that will be used in this conclusion and the conditions that will still be left to us to unfreeze the process. If we get positive news, the green light at tomorrow's session again boils down to that, and this is what Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi clearly told us, that we must deliver the Law on the Court or the Law on the Courts. We have to deliver it. If we get the green light, the next step will not be able to start without it. I call on my colleagues from the coalition, from the party and everyone who works on this to harmonize this text as soon as possible and move forward,” said Forto.

He explained that the situation is dramatic because there are countries that do not really see that Bosnia and Herzegovina has fulfilled the conditions that were put before it.

“The Benelux countries, France, are dissatisfied with some aspects of the negotiations for Ukraine, and they think that they are being less strict towards BiH and the Western Balkans, and that they are being more strict towards Ukraine. France is asking for it to be equalized, which can damage us as collateral. Essential elections are in Europe, there is a war in Ukraine, a lot of things are happening, and in order for BiH to get through all this, a strong, collective effort from all of us is essential,” he told N1 from Brussels.
