France has posthumously honoured Arman Soldin, a Sarajevo-born video journalist, who was killed in Ukraine in May 2023, BBC reported Friday.
Arman Soldin, 32, who was killed in a rocket attack near Bakhmut, was named a Knight of the Legion of Honor.
French President Emmanuel Macron hailed Soldin's “courage” in a letter to the Agence France-Presse news agency.
Soldin is one of at least 17 journalists killed in Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Born in Sarajevo, Soldin was a French citizen. He started working for AFP as a correspondent intern in Rome in 2015 and was later hired in London. He was part of the first AFP team sent to Ukraine after the start of the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, arriving the next day. Soldin has been living in Ukraine since September, leading the team's reporting and regularly travelling to the front lines in the east and south.
