Geological expert's report to be key in Donja Jablanica tragedy investigation

Prosecutors remain in continuous contact with the expert, who has been provided with extensive documentation, including satellite imagery and a 3D terrain analysis.

Under a court order and the supervision of the HNC Prosecutor’s Office, police investigators have seized business documentation from the HNC Ministry of Economy linked to the company "Sani" Ltd. Jablanica, which is reportedly associated with a quarry. Additionally, certain company records have been confiscated, and their examination is ongoing.

The investigation has involved multiple expert assessments, including evaluations from mining, surveying, and geological specialists. Data has also been gathered from the FBiH Hydrometeorological Institute and other relevant institutions as needed.

A 3D terrain scan was conducted using airborne Lidar technology over the wider Donja Jablanica area to measure the quantity, volume, and mass of displaced earth material, as well as to assess its role in the destructive impact of the incident. This data is being utilized in further expert evaluations.

Earlier this year, a supplement to the police report was submitted, accompanied by documentation such as on-site investigation records, photographic evidence, findings from the medical examiner, and witness testimonies. This material is currently under review by prosecuting attorneys.

Several individuals have also been interviewed as witnesses.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the ongoing investigation has determined that most victims perished due to suffocation caused by earth and similar debris.

Authorities stress that, given the complexity of the case and the time required for analyses, no definitive conclusions can yet be made regarding the causes and accountability.
