The government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, one of Bosnia's two administrative units, on Friday decided to freeze the prices of 65 basic food and hygiene products in an effort to alleviate the impact of inflation, while citizens continued their boycott of stores on Friday due to high prices.
The price limitation measure will allow for price reductions ranging from 17% to 23%, which could result in an average savings of around €30 per consumer per month.
The measure will last for at least three months, with the possibility of an extension depending on the results and economic circumstances, according to a statement from the government of the Croat-Bosniak entity.
The list includes basic food items such as flour, oil, sugar, milk and hygiene products. However, certain products, such as coffee, are not included in this initiative due to significant and ongoing price increases on the global market.
Citizens’ boycott of stores continued in Bosnia and Herzegovina today. No significant crowds were recorded in shops and shoppers have been urged not to buy products tomorrow as well, in an effort to pressure retailers to reduce their margins.
