The Srebrenica Memorial Center plays a crucial role in preserving historical memory and encouraging new generations to learn from the lessons of a tragic past, which is why it has enjoyed long-term support from the United Kingdom.

Deputy British Ambassador to BiH, James Hamilton Harding, visited the Memorial Center, where he was presented with various aspects of the Center’s activities carried out with UK support.

Following previous programs primarily focused on research and memorialization, a new program has been implemented over the past year with the support of the UK government, fully dedicated to institutional reorganization and capacity building.

As part of this project, a strategic document for the period 2025-2030 has been developed, along with an action plan for the next two years. Numerous initiatives for knowledge and experience exchange have been carried out in collaboration with international organizations, memorial centres, and museums.

The Srebrenica Memorial Center’s Dialogue Committee has become a cornerstone for discussions on confronting the past in BiH through various historical visits, messages, and initiatives.

“In addition to institutional reforms, the Memorial Center has worked on raising awareness through various initiatives, including video campaigns and workshops dedicated to remembering the crimes committed in eastern Bosnia, in cooperation with victims’ associations. These activities, along with the establishment of the Dialogue Committee, are key to the long-term sustainability of the Memorial Center and its engagement on an international level,” said the Center’s director, Emir Suljagic.

Speaking about the reasons for this support, Deputy Ambassador Hamilton Harding emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory, combating genocide denial, and ensuring that future generations have the opportunity for a peaceful and inclusive future. He reiterated that the United Kingdom continues to support the Memorial Center, particularly in the areas of research, education, and institutional strengthening.
