Visibly agitated, the High Representative of the international community in Bosnia, Christian Schmidt, denied allegations that he tried to impose electoral reform that would not take into account the rights of people who do not belong to the three major ethnic groups and stressed that he has been trying to “unblock the country”.
Schmidt was responding to a question from N1’s Adisa Imamovic during a visit to the town of Gorazde and used the opportunity to strongly criticise Bosnia’s political leaders for “playing the blame game.”
Schmidt stressed that politicians in BiH have failed to reach an agreement for 15 years.
“Please ask them what they are doing,” he said, referring to political leaders in the country.
Schmidt said he considers himself a “patient man”, but that the insults he has been receiving are “silly” and that he is “just deblocking this country.”
The High Representative said that it is up to the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ BiH), the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) and the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) to reach an agreement.
