The initiative proposed by Our Party MP Sabina Cudic calling for the dismissal of Zoran Galic, the Deputy Director of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) and former Director of the Border Police of BiH who is currently on the run, has been adopted by the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Cudic confirmed the information to N1: “Members of HDZ voted against this initiative, but did not provide an explanation.”
It should be noted that Galic is accused of accepting bribes and abuse of office, which led to his flight to Croatia in July this year, taking advantage of his dual citizenship.
“Galic has been on the run since July 9, while the international warrant was only issued on August 8. Before that, we faced unsuccessful attempts, or rather a game of deaf telephones between the Council of Ministers of BiH and the Independent Committee. I then analyzed the Rules of Procedure of the Independent Committee, particularly Article 16, which allows any government body in BiH, including the House of Representatives, to initiate his dismissal or request his removal. This is what I used to propose this initiative. It did not receive support from the Joint Defense Committee of both Houses, but it did today in the House of Representatives, with HDZ members voting against it. We want to end this farce and ultimately protect the dignity of BiH in this process, as well as the BiH budget, which Galic has been exploiting in an arrogant and utterly distasteful manner,” Cudic stated.
She then explained the next steps in the process.
“After being adopted in the House of Representatives, the initiative goes to the Independent Committee, which must act on it and issue instructions for Galic's removal. Five days ago, the Council of Ministers also adopted a similar initiative, but I do not trust that the Council will fully implement these steps. I fear that it was just a way to buy some time, as we have so far had incomplete correspondence between them and the Independent Committee. Therefore, it was important to me today that the House of Representatives, as a government body, put an end to this process and bring it to a conclusion,” Cudic said.
Galic has submitted a request for resignation from his position. However, when launching the initiative, Cudic emphasized that neither resignation nor retirement should be accepted: “He is suspected of serious crimes and is a fugitive from BiH justice. If we relieve him of his duties or allow him to retire, he will continue to enjoy privileges of the BiH system that he has defrauded. We could even be legitimizing what he has done. Only removal, as the only sanction we can apply for now, is acceptable, and I believe in the possibility of his extradition and trial for the charges he faces.”
