High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, met today in Sarajevo with a high-level NATO delegation led by Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Boris Ruge, and NATO Headquarters Sarajevo Commander, Brigadier General Matthew Vallasek. Schmidt emphasized that the situation in the country remains stable but called for continued vigilance.
In a statement from the Office of the High Representative, Schmidt highlighted the need for close cooperation within the international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina to prevent any rollback of reforms and to strengthen the country's Euro-Atlantic path.
“The security situation in BiH remains stable, but caution is necessary to address ongoing challenges to the functionality and authority of state institutions, as well as the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Schmidt stated. He further stressed that maintaining stability and a peaceful environment conducive to reforms and EU integration is the top priority for the international community in the Western Balkans region.
