Hungary fully supports European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Wednesday in Budapest in a meeting with his Bosnian counterpart Elmedin Konakovic, who informed him about the reform activities that Bosnia has carried out in the recent period.
As a member state of the European Union, Hungary plays an important role in providing support to efforts of Bosnia and Herzegovina towards the European integration, offering the assistance in the accession process, Szijjarto said.
Speaking about Hungary's takeover of the Presidency of the EU Council, as oh July 1 this year, he said that speeding up the integration of the Western Balkans will be one of the main priorities.
“He assessed that this process is bringing the peace and stability of the region. He repeated that Hungary assigned two diplomats to assist the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH in the field of the EU and NATO integration, and secured a training for 50 public administration servants in the Diplomatic Academy of Hungary, who will have an opportunity to learn on the Hungarian experience of the process of the EU accession and challenges on that path, which will be of a great help to our country,” according to a statement issued by the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Minister Konakovic informed Szijjarto about the current political developments in the country, with special emphasis on the adoption of five reform laws needed for the country's EU journey.
He assessed it would be of exceptional significance for Bosnia and Herzegovina to get a green light for the opening of the accession talks with the EU in the upcoming session of the European Council.
Szijjarto's spokesperson also confirmed that Bosnia's EU integration was among the top subjects discussed in the meeting.
Konakovic also met with Hungary's Minister for the EU Affairs Janos Boka, informing him about the country's progress on the EU path.
Boka stressed on this occasion that Bosnia and Herzegovina has done a lot more over the recent period than during the past years and that the EU should recognise that progress.
Bosnian FM paid an official visit to Hungary at the invitation of FM Szijjarto.
