Bosnian Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic and his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto signed a document on Friday on enhanced support to the integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the European Union.

Addressing the media, Konakovic said that Hungary support Bosnia's European path, which is a difficult process and the process that BiH is not sufficiently prepared for.

“Hungary offered and we accepted that sort of assistance in terms of getting through all difficult negotiations that are, hopefully awaiting us in March,” said Konakovic.

Hungary is taking over the presidency of the EU Council as of July 1 and the Western Balkans could provide a new impetus, Szijjarto said.

“One of the main goals of the Hungary's Presidency is speeding up the EU integration of the Western Balkan countries, because we think that it would bring peace and stability in this region. All those hindering the process of EU integration of the Western Balkans go against both the Western Balkan and EU countries,” he stressed, adding that there are those who openly advocate enlargement but in closed circles they talk totally different.

Szijjarto, who arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, first landed in Banja Luka, where he met with President of Republika Srpska entity Milorad Dodik.

He expressed support to accelerated integration of BiH but noted that he is against the policy of sanctions.
