Banners that read 'independence' appeared on Thursday across Banja Luka, Bosnia's second-largest city and administrative centre of Republika Srpska, Bosnia's Serb-majority region.

Reportedly, the banners that have Republika Srpska flag in the background were put up by veterans.

Dusko Vukotic, a representative of Republika Srpska Veterans  Association, posted a photo with the banner on his Facebook page, with a caption 'the only solution'.

The banners appeared amidst tensions that emerged mostly due to rhetoric of Milorad Dodik, the leader of the SNSD – the ruling party in Republika Srpska, who encourages talks on independence of this region over the election recount that was ordered after the alleged election fraud reported by the opposition.
