Head of the Bosnian top electoral authority Zeljko Bakalar discussed the organising of the upcoming elections in October with the new international peace envoy in Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt. This was their first meeting after Schmidt took office in August last year.
The talks focused on the financial aspect of the October election ans the fact that the Central Election Commission has not yet received the funds to asume the duties from the scope of its competencies, which include the organising of elections.
They also talked about the activities of other competent institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina in providing the financial support for elections, in accordance with the provisions of the Election Law of BiH and the Law on Financing of Institutions of BiH.
The virtual meeting also put an emphasis on the activities carried out by the Central Election Commission of BiH, which it continues to carry out with the aim of strengthening the integrity, transparency and efficiency of the election process in BiH and meeting the relevant recommendations of the OSCE / ODIHR and the Venice Commission, as well as the contribution of the Central Election Commission BiH in the reform of electoral legislation in BiH.
