Islamic Community in Bosnia condemns glorification of Ratko Mladic, missed chance for reconciliation

For the Islamic Community, the stances of state officials of the Republic of Serbia and representatives of the Bosnian entity of Republika Srpska are particularly concerning. Although it is obvious that some officials avoided attending the commemoration and burial under international pressure, it is nevertheless shameful that the body of the convicted war criminal was received and seen off with the highest state honors and the presence of numerous officials, the statement notes.

Through the Public Relations Office, the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovinasaid that through such actions by representatives of the Serb people, and particularly the Church, an opportunity to confront the past has been missed.

“With such actions by representatives of the Serb people and notably the Church, an opportunity to face the past has been missed and the process of any reconciliation and the return of trust has been damaged in the long term”, they said.
