John Ginkel has been named as the acting head of the US Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a one-year term, unofficial reports indicate.
He is reportedly already in Sarajevo and is expected to formally assume his duties from the current acting chief, Daniel Koski, in the coming days.
Ginkel previously served as a political advisor on Kosovo issues, deputy political advisor at the US Mission to the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and has held positions at US embassies in Riga and Sarajevo.
He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed his doctorate at Washington University in St. Louis.
