If the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina started to work properly – mostly its judiciary and if his freedom was questionable, Milorad Dodik would be ready to start a war to avoid the prison, attorney and journalist Senad Pecanin told N1. According to Pecanin, the President of Bosnia's Republika Srpska entity might also carry out his secession threats in the upcoming period, which he called “very uncertain period.”

Speaking in N1's Pressing show, Pecanin said that there is a “clear strategy” of bringing police, reserve officers, hunters and volunteers to the inter-entity boundary line, which separates Republika Srpska from Bosnia's other entity, the Federation (FBiH), stressing that this would be a “crucial moment.”

“If the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina are ready to allow an ethnic division of BiH, if the Sarajevans are ready to have Serbia only 200 metres of air distance away from the Presidency, then it is really possible for the country to divide without a war. I deem this is impossible and that conflict and incidents would happen, which would take people's lives,” he stressed.

Asked why has he appeared in media after more than a half year of silence, Pecanin said he was disappointed with political situation as well as the stance of the western partners towards Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“It also comes after a significant conference in Berlin, which unfortunately made me believe that a stance of one such important country like Germany, and even the whole EU, is absolutely inadequate to the seriousness and depth of the crisis in BiH,” Pecanin stressed.

According to him, the US changed the approach towards Bosnia and Herzegovina and made this country, alongside Montenegro and Kosovo a “collateral damage.”

Pecanin argued that the US Administration was planning to stabilise the region by detaching the “current regime of (Serbian President) Aleksandar Vucic from Russia,” but has eventually brought not only the EU, but also Montenegro, Bosnia and Kosovo into a difficult situation. Such idea was “an illusion that even the US is becoming aware of.” According to him, the latest visit of US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien was a sort of an “admission.”

“I am slightly shocked by the lack of analysis in our public space of the situation that BiH is in, from the security point of view,” he said, mentioning among other things the process of arming in Serbia – the country which is surrounded by the NATO member states. “None of those countries would attack Serbia, but the only country that could become the stage is BiH.”

On the other hand, he continued, there is the policy of Milorad Dodik, who is not hiding his goals and ambitions.

“If you match those two facts, then I cannot believe there is such ignoring of reality by political actors, the public and media,” he said.

Later during the interview, Pecanin said this was an era where the interests of Bosnia and Herzegovina can be protected by those friendly countries only if they match their own interests.

“The 1992-95 aggression on BiH proves that. Russia's aggression against Ukraine, genocide in Gaza and crises in relations with China… We are probably living one of the most turbulent periods in recent history of mankind. The depth of this crisis overcomes all that we could see since the end of the WWII,” he added.
