Police in Istocno Sarajevo have arrested Djordje Zdrale, a resident of Istocno Novo Sarajevo, in connection with a shooting that occurred at the "Perla" cafe in the early hours of October 22-23. While no injuries were reported in the incident, which took place in Decanska Street, Zdrale is facing charges related to the illegal production and trafficking of weapons or explosive materials, the local police said.
A search of Zdrale's home, auxiliary buildings, and vehicles, conducted with the approval of the Sokolac Basic Court and the East Sarajevo District Prosecutor's Office, led to the discovery of a gas pistol and 51 rounds of 9mm ammunition. Authorities also searched three other locations linked to individuals identified as B.D. and K.P. in Istocno Novo Sarajevo and Istocna Ilidza.
Zdrale's arrest marks his second run-in with the law this year. In April, he was previously detained in Istocno Sarajevo alongside Zoran Sljivic, the husband of Democratic People’s Alliance (DNS) representative Nikolina Sljivic. The incident reportedly stemmed from a verbal altercation between Zdrale and Bosnia’s Minister of Security, Nenad Nesic, resulting in heightened security measures for the Minister.
However, Nesic downplayed any concerns for his safety at the time, stating, “I am not afraid for my security nor of Djordje Zdrale. He has served his sentence and is now a regular citizen. If it were up to me, those protecting me could go home right now.”
Zdrale was previously convicted in 2010 for the murder of Ljubisa Savic Mauzer, the former head of the Republika Srpska police. After serving 12 years of his 20-year sentence, Zdrale was released in February 2022 by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
