Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zeljko Komsic, attended the gathering commemorating the 32nd anniversary of the formation of the First Brigade of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Police. In his address to the media, Komsic spoke about the resolution on the Srebrenica genocide and the political actions coming from Belgrade.
“Regardless of what is happening in the country, in the region, and I must say in Europe, it is important for the people who came to defend this city and Bosnia and Herzegovina to show that they are still here. That they are proud of what they did. Therefore, it is important for people to gather. It is important to convey messages that, regardless of our current age as people who participated in the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we do not give up on what we believed in back then, that we do not give up on our deeds,” said Komsic.
Regarding the political pressures from Serbia and the propaganda coming from that country concerning the Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica, Komšić stated that it is crucial to remember who stands with Bosnia and Herzegovina now.
“Now, the friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina are being revealed, and this should be remembered for the future. We know whom we can rely on, not because of who we are, but because it is a matter of universal truths. This is about a genocide committed against people because they were Muslims and Bosniaks, in our country. Unfortunately, genocides still occur around the world today. The difference with the genocide in Srebrenica is that it has been confirmed by international court rulings. What more does the world need to prove that this stance is correct? We need to stop the denial of this genocide. As for the politics coming from Belgrade, I expected them to be wiser and smarter. If I were in their position, I would co-sponsor such a resolution. This resolution is not directed against any nation or state. It does not speak of any collective guilt. It speaks about what happened, unfortunately, in our country in 1995. It speaks about the need to preserve the memory of all moments, especially the victims, for the future. If I were in the position of the decision-makers in Belgrade, I would even accept to be a co-sponsor of this resolution,” said Komsic.
