Komsic to represent Bosnia at EU-WB summit in Brussels

The meeting aims to reaffirm the strong strategic relationship and the EU's full commitment to the Western Balkans' eventual membership. Key discussions will focus on accelerating political and economic ties, especially given the current geopolitical context.

The EU will emphasise the necessity of concrete progress in regional cooperation, reforms, alignment with the acquis, and good-neighbourly relations. The Council noted that the gradual integration of Western Balkan partners into various EU policy areas is already underway, delivering concrete benefits to citizens and preparing for accession.

A key focus will be the progress of the Western Balkans Growth Plan, launched in 2023. This plan provides up to €6 billion for reforms and investments, aiming to integrate the region into the EU Single Market, boost economic growth, and accelerate socio-economic convergence, contingent on partners implementing necessary EU-related reforms.

The summit announcement highlights that the EU remains the region's main trade partner, investor, and donor. Leaders will also address cooperation on security, defence, and resilience against hybrid and cyber threats, disinformation, and foreign interference. Furthermore, discussions will cover joint efforts on shared challenges such as migration management, fighting corruption, organized crime, and counter-terrorism.

The summit will conclude with the adoption of a joint EU-Western Balkans declaration. This summit is part of the implementation of the European Council’s strategic agenda.
