Elmedin Konakovic, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said today in Sarajevo that the most important factor in selecting a new High Representative is for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s main foreign policy partners - the United States and the European Union - to reach common ground and define the future role of the Office of the High Representative (OHR).

He added that after this, an acceptable candidate should be identified, stressing that he believes no one in Bosnia and Herzegovina is seeking a 'private' High Representative, but rather someone who understands the country’s specific circumstances and will not allow secessionism or attacks on state institutions, while also being prepared to help improve their functioning.

Konakovic emphasized that he supports the growing calls for domestic politicians to take greater responsibility and for international interventions to be reduced as much as possible.

He also said he has certain information regarding negotiations over the new High Representative and is actively holding discussions with Bosnian partners, but noted that it is still too early to comment further.
