The meeting focused on bilateral relations between Bosnia and the United Kingdom, the current political situation in country, its European and Euro-Atlantic path, reform processes, and regional cooperation. On this occasion, both sides welcomed the strong and friendly relations between Bosnia and the United Kingdom, founded on intensive political dialogue and substantive cooperation.

The United Kingdom’s strong support for Bosnia during a challenging period was highlighted, including its continued interest and engagement regarding political developments in the country. During the meeting, both sides expressed readiness to further enhance bilateral cooperation, with a particular emphasis on economic relations.

Konakovic stated that Bosnia highly values the United Kingdom’s long-standing friendship and strong support, especially regarding the protection of the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and its European and Euro-Atlantic path.

He also emphasized the importance of support for strengthening state institutions, the rule of law, and the judicial system. He particularly pointed to the seriousness of the current political situation in the country, stressing that continued international support for the Dayton Peace Agreement, the constitutional order, and state institutions is of crucial importance.

He warned that the current political context, including the election year and increasingly frequent rhetoric challenging the constitutional order, poses a serious risk to the country’s stability and legal certainty.

Speaking about the appointment of a new High Representative, he emphasized the need for a transparent and responsible process, with full accountability of member states of the Peace Implementation Council Steering Board (PIC Steering Board). He clearly stated that Bosnia remains committed to dialogue and compromise, but that political concessions to actors undermining the international order cannot be considered an acceptable solution regarding the appointment of the High Representative.

Doughty stressed that full respect for the Dayton Peace Agreement remains essential for preserving peace and stability in the country. In that context, he particularly emphasized the important role of the Office of the High Representative (OHR) in safeguarding the Dayton Agreement and the country’s stability. He reiterated that the United Kingdom remains firmly committed to supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and will continue supporting the country on its European and Euro-Atlantic path.
