Konakovic meets US congressmen, Washington reaffirms support for Bosnia’s sovereignty

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic met on Sunday in Sarajevo with US Congressmen Keith Self and Suhas Subramanyam, who are visiting the country.

According to the US Embassy, the meeting focused on the Western Balkans and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s role in regional stability. The embassy said the United States reaffirmed its support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s sovereignty and the importance of practical cooperation among all communities.
“A stable BiH means a safer Western Balkans and advances US security interests,” the US Embassy said in a post on X.
The two congressmen also met on Saturday with members of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Presidency to discuss ways to strengthen the bilateral partnership and support stability in the Western Balkans.
“The United States remains committed to the Dayton Peace Agreement and to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH. A stable and secure BiH advances US interests in the region,” the embassy said.
During their visit, Self and Subramanyam also toured NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo and met with Brigadier General Fowler, the NATO commander in the country.
The meeting focused on NATO’s role in maintaining stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Promoting peace and security advances US interests in the Western Balkans,” the embassy said.
