Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Dmitry Medvedev, President of the All-Russian political party United Russia, wrote to Milorad Dodik, President of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, as reported by RTRS, concerning the "erosion of the Dayton principles governing Bosnia and Herzegovina's internal organization."
In his letter, Lavrov stressed that as one of the guarantors of the General Framework (Dayton) Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1995, the Russian Federation prioritizes the consistent implementation of this international legal document, which is vital for maintaining stability and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Balkans overall.
“We are watching with concern as Western actors persistently undermine the Dayton principles of Bosnia and Herzegovina's internal organization, and we are witnessing active attempts to curtail the inalienable constitutional rights of its constituent peoples. It is evident that the RS, you personally, and your associates are under attack because you defend the legitimate and international interests of the Serb people, resisting the West's neo-colonial policies,” Lavrov stated, according to RTRS.
Lavrov further emphasized that “in the future, Russia is committed to a principled and responsible approach to defending the Dayton Agreement, strengthening peace in the Balkans, and fostering equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with the RS.”
Lavrov wished Dodik resilience, courage, and success in his patriotic efforts, along with “good luck and prosperity to the fraternal Serb people.”
Dmitry Medvedev, in his letter to Dodik, expressed Russia's deep concern over the developments in the Balkans and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“It is with regret that we observe the revival of former colonial practices by the West, which seeks to establish total control over the peoples of the region and turn them into unwilling, disenfranchised satellites, carrying out commands without question,” he said.
Medvedev added, “The steadfastness with which the Serb people oppose aggressive Western policies and defend their national interests commands immense respect.”
“In fact, you are personally on the front line of this new stage of the national liberation struggle, bravely resisting external pressure that often crosses all imaginable moral, ethical, and legal boundaries,” Medvedev continued.
He concluded by expressing confidence that “through joint efforts, the Russian and Serb peoples will ensure the triumph of traditional values, equality of rights, and creative cooperation.”
“I wish you and your associates strength and continued success, and to the people of RS, peace, stability, and prosperity,” Medvedev concluded in his letter to Dodik.
