The international war crimes court in the Hague rejected the objections of convicted Bosnian Serb war criminal, Radovan Karadzic, to serving his life sentence in the UK, his lawyer said.
Karadzic, the wartime president of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) region, was sentenced to life behind bars for various war crimes, including genocide committed in the eastern Bosnian town of Srebrenica in 1995.
He is to serve the sentence in the UK but objected to the transfer arguing that his safety is jeopardised due to a high number of “Muslim extremists” serving their sentences in the country.
According to a tweet by Karadzic’s lawyer, Peter Robinson, the head of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) rejected the objections.
“Radovan Karadzic's objections to serving his sentence in the UK were rejected by the IRMCT President, setting him up for a sentence of solitary confinement for the rest of his life or death at the hands of Muslim extremists in UK prisons,” he tweeted.
