The Summit of Mayors/Heads of Municipalities is being held in Sarajevo Tuesday, as part of the event First Days of the BiH Diaspora. The summit was attended by a large number of heads and mayors from both entities, but none from Sarajevo's municipalities or the City Administration.

Hasib Hadzic, the head of the organization of Bosnia International Forum, said that this is the first such summit.

“The goals of this forum are to establish relations between the diaspora and the motherland through six projects. First of all, the focus is on the diaspora registry so that we have precise data on where and how many people in the world we have originally from BiH, their occupations and from which local community they come. We want to establish communication and build trust with the diaspora from local communities around the world,” said Hadzic.

Nudzejma Pasic, the coordinator of the First Days of the BiH Diaspora, said that they need the support of local representatives.

“Most of the needs of our people around the world are at the local level. It is unbelievable to me that we didn’t have representatives of local municipalities from Sarajevo and the city administration. I hope that we will have better cooperation with them considering that we are organizing the summit in Sarajevo. There is great interest from the diaspora, but a low level of awareness about the diaspora from our local levels,” Pasic said.
