Mane Djuric, the former head of the Public Security Station in Vlasenica and an accused in a high-profile war crimes case, passed away on Friday, the Veterans Organisation of Vlasenica Municipality confirmed to Detektor.
Djuric, who faced allegations of crimes committed in the Vlasenica area during the Bosnian War, was laid to rest on Sunday.
His trial had recently been separated from the collective trial for a second time due to his deteriorating health. Djuric was charged alongside Radenko Stanic, Miroslav Kraljevic, and Goran Garic for the persecution of Bosniak civilians in Vlasenica between 1992 and 1993. The charges included illegal detention, murder, sexual violence, torture, enforced disappearances, and other inhumane acts.
The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina initially separated Djuric's case in September 2019 due to health concerns, only to rejoin it in 2021 following a medical assessment deeming him fit to stand trial. However, his health issues resurfaced, prompting another separation of his case from the ongoing proceedings.
The last hearing Djuric attended was in October 2022, during which two prosecution witnesses testified.
