Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that the best solution for overcoming the internal political crisis in Bosnia was to repeal the adopted amendments which provide for criminal liability for denying the genocide in Srebrenica.
“Russia, as a guarantor of the Dayton Peace Agreement and a member of the Steering Board of the Peace Implementation Council, considers this event an undisguised attack on BiH's sovereignty, its Constitutional order and the powers of the Government,” Zakharova said in a statement.
She concluded that Moscow is certain that legislative changes in a democratic and legal state, such as, undoubtedly, Bosnia and Herzegovina, are carried out via an established parliamentary procedure.
“With the help of the amendments [to the Criminal Code of BiH], [former High Representative to BiH Valentin] Inzko tried to clean up the BiH political space from ‘unsuitable’ politicians in order to reshape the state system of the country contrary to the postulates of the Dayton Peace Agreement,” Maria Zakharova added.
She pointed out that “the incident with Inzko's arbitrariness clearly confirms the justification of Russia's consistent position in favour of abolishing the institution of external tutoring over BiH, which only creates problems and undermines peace and stability in the country.”
