The Maryland Bosnia and Herzegovina Exchange Council said that the state of Maryland has officially declared July 11, 2024 the Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide, Council the co-founder of the organisation, Adnan Hadrovic, told the Fena news agency.
“This proclamation, under the administration of Governor Wes Moore, shows Maryland's commitment to preserving the memory of the victims and solidarity with the American Bosnian community. The decision to mark this day highlights the common values of democracy, human rights and self-determination that connect our communities,” he said.
Hadrovic said that this is a strong reminder of the importance of remembering the genocide in Srebrenica in order to build a better, more inclusive future.
Over the past few months, the Council facilitated numerous visits by BiH officials to Maryland, strengthening the growing relationship.
“The Council thanks Maryland for this significant step in supporting the BiH community and ensuring that the horrors of genocide are never repeated. Together we can work towards a future in which justice and human dignity prevail,” Hadrovic said.
