The incomplete remains of at least six people were exhumed from a mass grave that was discovered at the site of Donje Sopotnica in the municipality of Novo Gorazde, more precisely in the yard of the St. George Orthodox Church.
The remains were found at a depth of some 40 centimetres, and it was determined that this was a secondary mass grave.
After the exhumation, the remains were transferred to the ossuary of the “Sveti Marko” burial company in Istocno Sarajevo, where forensic-medical and criminal-technical processing will be performed, as well as the extraction of bone samples for DNA analysis.
The exhumation process on the ground was managed by the BiH Prosecutor's Office and representatives of the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH, the International Commission for Missing Persons (ICMP) in BiH, a permanent court expert – a pathologist, other workers and adequate machinery, as well as police officers from Novo Gorazde, who secured the location and provided crime-technical support.
