Hollywood star Meg Ryan dazzled on the red carpet at the Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF). In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the art of cinema, the American actress will be honoured with the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo award at the 30th SFF.
Earlier on Tuesday, she participated in a Masterclass session moderated by Bosnian director Danis Tanovic.
“I’m glad to be here, I’m honoured to attend, it’s truly a privilege to be here with you,” the actress said at the start of the program.
She went on to share how she began her acting career and how she became an actress.
“I was actually a journalism student, and of course, I needed to cover my expenses during university, so that’s how my acting journey began. I’m essentially an actress without formal training, learning gradually along the way,” Ryan explained, noting that acting is a continuous learning process.
She also expressed her own surprise at becoming an actress, as she didn't show much talent on stage during her childhood.
Ryan further discussed the importance of the connection between actors and directors, working together on a film.
“There has to be a sort of parental relationship between the actor and the director. Every role you play is somehow a part of yourself,” Ryan stated.
She talked about many of the films she has starred in, including her latest project, What Happens Later, which will be screened at this year’s 30th Sarajevo Film Festival.
Ryan is especially popular for her roles in romantic comedies. For What Happens Later, she co-wrote the screenplay and stars alongside David Duchovny.
The audience fondly remembers the popular actress for her roles in films such as You've Got Mail, When Harry Met Sally, and Sleepless in Seattle.
