Along with the memorial plaque, a weeping willow tree was planted as a lasting tribute to the 1,601 children killed during the siege of Bosnia's capital city.
The purpose of placing this memorial plaque in front of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Washington, D.C., near the U.S. State Department, is to serve as an eternal reminder and a somber memorial to the children killed in our capital city, as well as to all the children who lost their lives during the aggression on Bosnia, so that such crimes may never happen again, stated Bosnian Ambassador Sven Alkalaj.
