Memorial service for murdered Serbs held in Skelani, the youngest victim was five

A memorial service at the Central Monument in Skelani near Srebrenica was held for 305 Serbs from this settlement and the surrounding villages who died during the last war. Sixty-nine of them were killed on this day in 1993.

Apart from family members of the murdered and a large number of citizens, the memorial service, which was officiated by the priest Srdjan Lalovic from Skelani, was also attended by the Deputy Speaker of the Republika Srpska National Assembly Petko Rankic, the president of the RS Veterans’ Association Radan Ostojic, and numerous delegations of municipal and regional associations.

A total of 34 ethnic Serb civilians and 35 members of the Army of the Republika Srpska were killed in a conflict with members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Skelani and other surrounding villages, on January 16, 1993.

Among the victims were women and children.

The youngest victim was five-year-old Aleksandar Dimitrijevic and his brother Radislav who was 11 at the time. Gordana Sekulic was killed on the bridge, and her two sons survived and live in Srebrenica today with their father Mirko.

No one was held accountable for the crimes committed in Skelani.
