MEPs to visit Bosnia to assess security situation in the country

European Parliament delegation consisting of the members of the Security and Defence Subcommittee is set to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina this month, in the context of geopolitical turbulence caused by Russia's war against Ukraine, the Parliament announced on Friday.

During the visit, taking place from 20 to 23 February, Security and Defence Subcommittee (SEDE) MEPs will pay field visits to the premises of EU military mission – EUFOR Althea and NATO at Camp Butmir as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina’s armed forces facilities at Camp Rajlovac.

They will meet with the leaders of the country, including members of the tripartite Presidency and the new government, prominent parliamentarians and representatives of the international and think tank community.

The delegation includes Chairman Gheorghe-Vlad Nistor (EPP, Romania), as well as embers from different political groups: Leopoldo López Gil (EPP, Spain), Dietmar Köster (S&D, Germany), Thijs Reuten (S&D, Netherlands), Klemen Grošelj (Renew Europe, Slovenia), Viola Von Cramon-Taubadel (Greens/EFA, Germany).

The statement also said that, as mandated by the European Parliament’s Conference of Presidents, this delegation aims primarily to assess the EU’s military operation EUFOR Althea and the security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the context of the geopolitical turbulence caused by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
