Milan Trisic was sentenced to 15 years in prison, on Wednesday, for crimes against humanity in the Bratunac area, by the first-instance verdict of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Trisic was found guilty of participating in murders, disappearances and inhumane treatment in the Bratunac area in May 1992 as a member of the Territorial Defense and later of the Republika Srpska Army.
During the proceedings, Trisic was not in custody, and the BiH Court made a decision ordering him to be detained, Detektor.ba reports.
Trisic was extradited from the United States in October 2019, and his trial began in June 2020.
Wednesday’s ruling is subject to an appeal.
In March 2018, the US authorities jailed him for 18 months for failing to state in his green card application that he was part of the RS Army’s Bratunac Brigade during the war in BiH.
In the US court, Trisic admitted that he had engaged in various unlawful activities while serving with the Bratunac Brigade, such as the unlawful detention and beating of Bosniak prisoners.
The US court ruled that he should be deported to Bosnia after serving his sentence.
