Head of the Trepca South miners’ labour union Ibrahim Jonuzi said that ten of the 40 miners trapped in the Trepca South mines in southern Kosovska Mitrovica managed to come to the surface and that the other 30 or so are waiting for the electrical fault on the elevator to be repaired. Pročitaj više

He told the Pristina media that some 40 miners were trapped 900 meters underground at 3 am Monday, that ten of them managed to get out using alternative exits and that he expects the others to soon come to the surface.

All 40 miners who were trapped in the Trepca South mines have been rescued and they feel well, Jonuzi said Monday evening.

Jonuzi added that emergency medical teams, mobile teams and the police are at the scene, that the miners are worried but that they are in good health.

This is not the first time that Trepca South miners are trapped due to a problem with electricity. Trepca South is one of the two companies in southern Kosovska Mitrovica and employs only Albanians. The other company is Trepca North, which employs Serbs.
