Mostar Airport marks second-best year as passenger numbers soar

Mostar International Airport concluded 2025 with over 72,000 passengers, a significant increase from the 48,000 recorded the previous year. Airport Director Marko Djuzel described the figures as "substantial growth," noting that the performance aligns with the facility’s strategic business projections.

"In terms of passenger numbers, we are satisfied. This makes 2025 the second-best year since the establishment of Mostar Airport," Djuzel stated.
The director indicated that 2026 will serve as a period of stabilisation. The airport plans to review existing routes to determine profitability, retaining eight successful services while discontinuing those that underperformed. Routes to Naples and Munich will be axed after failing to meet expectations.
According to Djuzel, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf remain the strongest performers, with aircraft occupancy rates exceeding 90%. Belgrade continues to maintain consistent figures, while Palermo has exceeded performance expectations.
"Zagreb reached around 55% occupancy, and Bari is performing adequately. Rome and Bergamo are still struggling slightly, but we expect them to reach normal figures this year," Djuzel said.
The strategic goal for 2026 is to consolidate current passenger levels and prioritise infrastructure upgrades to facilitate further expansion by 2027. Three major projects are slated for completion this year: the construction of a solar power plant to lower energy costs, a 900-square-metre expansion of the terminal building, and a full reconstruction of the ageing lighting system.
Despite Eurowings announcing regional flight reductions for the summer 2026 season, Mostar remains unaffected.
"Eurowings has actually slightly increased flights for us. Specifically, the Stuttgart route will start earlier than last year. We are not affected by the cuts because this route performs very well, with around 90% occupancy on aircraft with 150 to 180 seats," Djuzel explained.
While the winter period saw limited flights to Stuttgart during the Christmas and New Year holidays, Zagreb and Belgrade continue to operate as year-round services. The full summer schedule for Stuttgart, Dusseldorf, and other destinations is set to commence on 1 May.
