Poet Aleksa Santic has returned to the streets in Mostar on Tuesday, after the street, which was named after Mila Budak, an official in the government of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH), has been restored to its pre-war name - Aleksa Santic Street, one of the most famous Mostar poets.
The installation of plaques with new inscriptions on streets that until now were named after Ustasha officials began Tuesday.
Mostar City Council decided in July of last year that the streets in this city will no longer bear the names of political and military officials of the Ustasha regime from the Second World War period.
Plaques will also be placed on the former street of Vokic and Lorkovic, ministers in the NDH, which will henceforth bear the name of Tin Ujevic Street, while Djura Spuzevic Street will henceforth be called Ismet Ico Voljevic Street.
According to Bljesak.info news portal, a plaque with the inscription Ciglana will be placed on Tabornika Ivo Zelenika Street, while Fr. Ljudevit Lasta will replace Rafael Boban.
The street named after the Ustasha commissioner for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Jure Francetic, will be called Humska. With this act, six disputed streets in Mostar disappeared forever after 28 years of waiting.
