What kind of statements were those, President Milanovic, Nura Begovic, a member of the Mothers of Srebrenica and Zepa Enclaves Association asked Croatian President Zoran Milanovic, noting her surprise at such statements and wondering if he ever heard about a Bosnian Croat family from the Srebrenica region whose members were also victims of the 1995 genocide in that east-Bosnian town.
Mothers and women of Srebrenica and Podrinje, women from the Tuzla, Lukavac and Zivinice and many other citizens gathered at Tuzla's Srebrenica Genocide Victims Square at Saturday noon to pay tribute to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide committed by members of the Republika Srpska (RS) Army and of the RS Ministry of the Interior in July 1995. Among them was Nura Begovic who spoke of “Milanovic’s shameful statement about the Srebrenica genocide.”
“Mr Milanovic, did you visit the Memorial Center in Potocari and the grave of Rudolf Hren, a Croat from Srebrenica, who was killed in the genocide, as were our loved ones. Have you heard of his mother Barbara, who was expelled from Srebrenica together with us, who died and was buried in Srebrenica? Rudolf, I repeat, was killed in the genocide, and his mother Barbara was expelled. She fought with us for truth and justice until the last days of her life. So we ask you, what kind of statements were those? What political games do you play? Are you fighting for the Croat people, and yet you don't know about the fate of the Hren family? That is why we invite you from this place to leave us alone, go around us, and play your political games elsewhere,” said Nura Begovic.
Croatian President Zoran Milanovic made a number of statements over the last couple of weeks in which he questions the nature of the Srebrenica genocide and whether the fact that some 8,000 dead would constitute genocide or should a new word be invented for larger massacres.
