Multi-million euro main gas pipeline project advances in northern Republika Srpska

Plans for the Sepak–Banja Luka–Novi Grad main gas pipeline, one of the largest energy infrastructure developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina valued at 1.29 billion Bosnian marks (approx. €659.57 million), are taking concrete shape following the publication of technical documentation for the Doboj–Banja Luka section.

The 94.4-kilometre route documentation, prepared by Radis from Istosno Novo Sarajevo for project lead Sarajevo-gas Istocno Sarajevo, details technical specifications and terrain layouts. The Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and Ecology of Republika Srpska has initiated an environmental impact assessment procedure for the segment.
Passing through Doboj, Stanari, Derventa, Prnjavor, Laktasi, and Banja Luka, the DN 500 and DN 400 diameter pipeline will predominantly align with the 9th January Highway within an 18-metre working corridor. Key engineering tasks involve directional drilling underneath the Bosna River bed near Doboj and the Vrbas River near Laktasi, alongside crossings of major road networks and utility lines.
Major gas facilities include a 3.18-hectare complex in Ramici near Banja Luka featuring a main measuring and regulation station with a maximum throughput of 100,000 cubic metres per hour. Additional distribution facilities are planned in Laktasi and Prnjavor to connect to industrial zones and local supply networks.
The section forms part of a broader 500-kilometre primary and branch pipeline network designed to gasify 18 municipalities across three execution phases. Belgrade-based Konvar and Indjija-based Gasteh have been engaged for construction duties, with project costs reaching 1 billion marks (approx. €511.29 million) alongside an estimated 290 million marks (approx. €148.27 million) allocated for land expropriation.
While legislative steps have been introduced to streamline expropriation, final construction timelines remain pending further regulatory approvals. Household and industrial connection capabilities will require subsequent local network development across target municipalities.
